  • Yekaterinburg is the fourth-largest city which has been dubbed the "third capital of Russia". Yekaterinburg was founded on 18 November 1723 and named after the Russian emperor Peter the Great's wife, who after his death became Catherine I, Yekaterina being the Russian form of her name. The city served as the mining capital of the Russian Empire as well as a strategic connection between Europe and Asia at the time. Yekaterinburg became a key city to Siberia, which had rich resources, and was known as the "window to Asia", a reference to Saint Petersburg as a "window to Europe". In the late 19th century, Yekaterinburg became one of the centres of revolutionary movements in the Urals. In 1924, after Russia became a socialist state, the city was named Sverdlovsk after the Bolshevik leader Yakov Sverdlov. During the Soviet era, Sverdlovsk was turned into an industrial and administrative powerhouse. In 1991, after the fall of the Soviet Union, the city returned to its historical name. There are about 50 different museums in the city. The collection of one of the museums includes the oldest known wooden sculpture in the world, which is estimated to have been made 11,500 years ago.
  • The Boris Yeltsin Museum is a new project for Russia, that gave a positive start to the systematic study, preservation and popularization of the historical heritage of Russian presidents. Using the latest technologies, the museum presents the life of the first president of Russia. The central exhibition of the museum "Seven days that changed Russia" is an unbiased study of the 90s. The creators of the museum used authentic documents and exhibits to tell about the difficult period of birth of a new country.

  • Tyumen was the first Russian settlement in Siberia. Founded in 1586 to support Russia's eastward expansion, the city has remained one of the most important industrial and economic centers east of the Ural Mountains. Located at the junction of several important trade routes and with easy access to navigable waterways, Tyumen rapidly developed from a small military settlement to a large commercial and industrial city. The central part of Old Tyumen retains many historic buildings from throughout the city's history. Tyumen is not characterized by any particular architectural style. The town was built without planning for decades and because of that its architecture is an eclectic mix of buildings of different styles and eras. Tyumen's nickname is the Capital of Villages because the most of its territory is built up by lumber houses. Many of the wooden buildings located in the historical part of the city are considered culturally valuable. Museums and art galleries in Tyumen include the Tyumen Museum of Local Lore, the Tyumen Museum of the Fine Arts, Museum of Kolokolnikov estate and the Medical History Museum. The town has its own philharmonic orchestra and the Tyumen Music hall hosts performances.
  • A visit to the thermal bath gives a possibility to rest. The water in the pools has therapeutic and prophylactic properties and a positive effect on the physical and emotional state of the guests. The water temperature is 38 degrees all year round.
